XYZ GROUP

The XYZ group meets on the third Tuesday of each month for fellowship and education activites.  Although we think of ourselves as the “older adult group”, and our activities, being held in mid-day are primarily geared to retirement age folks, the invitation is open to anyone in the congregation to join us in our group events and to bring friends.

XYZ News for July

Photo of Butterfly in Wings-of-Fancy ExhibitThe “Wings Of Fancy ” live butterfly exhibit is the special attraction from May to September at the Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, MD. This is the destination of our Tuesday, July 21 trip. This butterfly exhibit is located in a glassenclosed conservatory which opens at 10:00 AM.

Hundreds of North American, Costa Rican and Asian butterflies fly freely inside the conservatory.  There is also a display that tells about the life cycle of these amazing creatures and an exhibit that focuses on butterflies in our backyards and the host plants that local caterpillars need in order to survive and thrive.

Our plan is to arrive shortly after 9:00 AM in order to enjoy some of the many special outdoor garden displays in the cooler morning
time. There will be carpooling for everyone interested leaving promptly from the church at 8:00 AM. The address of Brookside Gardens is 1800 Glenallan Avenue, in Wheaton. Driving directions will be available or click here for directions now.

Admission to the Brookside Gardens complex is free, but $7.00 tickets should be bought individually for the butterfly exhibit at the
Visitors Center which opens at 9:00 AM. The plan is for the group to have lunch together in a restaurant in the Wheaton area after the
Brookside Gardens visit. More details later on lunch plans.

Please call or e-mail the church office by Monday, July 13, if you would like to join us on this adventure.
