The Peace Education Committee provides opportunities for the congregation and the wider community to become better informed about our Brethren historical commitment to living peacefully and to consider ways to be peacemakers in today's world.
Our goals are to: - Present to the congregation a number of options regarding non-violent responses to conflict at home, locally, nationally and internationally.
- Educate the congregation regarding the historical peace perspective of the Church of the Brethren and the practical daily application of Christian peacemaking.
- Advocate for the practice of Christian peacemaking as God leads each individual in the congregation.
- Collect and distribute resources, books, and study guides to the members of the congregation concerning Christian peacemaking, with particular regard to options for non-violent resolutions of current areas of conflict in the world today.
- Encourage respect for differences of opinion and the lending of support to different approaches to peacemaking that individuals or groups in the congregation are led by God to make, acknowledging that the Chruch of the Brethren respects individual conscience regarding military service and that not all Brethren are pacifists.
