From September 29 through October 5, a crew of thirteen people went from Westminster Church of the Brethren to Jacksonville, Florida. The purpose of the trip was to help rebuild homes damaged from a hurricane two years ago. Residents of these homes had been living in small trailers. Tasks completed included roofing, plumbing, hanging wallboard, painting and cleaning. Near the site, Marilyn Ebaugh cooked two meals a day for the crew and set out supplies to make bagged lunches for each work day. Trips such as these are organized by the denomination's Brethren Disaster Ministries based in New Windsor, Maryland
Scholarships are available for transportation, food, and lodging for people in the community who might like to join a future Disaster Relief Trip. Call the church office at 410-848-8090, Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 1 PM for an application.
