Each November the Westminster Church of the Brethren co-sponsors the Gingerbread Village Festival in conjunction with Human Services Programs of Carroll County. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness for homelessness issues and to raise money to help the homeless here in Carroll County. The event took place at Winchester Exchange on Main Street in Westminster, November 16-24. Our church submitted an entry titled "Beacon of Peace and Hope," which was a model of the Dunker Church at Antietam. Those who attended the event "voted" for their favorite creations by purchasing tokens to put in containers by the entries. Raffle tickets were also sold for a play-yard truck made by Ernie Rice, a member of our church.
The public is invited to make a submission for the Gingerbread Village Festival. For information on deadlines, rules for making the creation, and how to submit and entry, go to Human Services Programs at hspinc.org.
