“Take a Minute” Prayer for the Week of May 7, 2012

When I went outside today, Holy God, I saw your presence all around me…and it was awesome! I know that I do not always take the time to recognize your presence through nature. Sometimes I am just in too much of a hurry. Or, if it is raining, I may feel frustrated and complain about the rain because I may need to change or cancel the plans I made for a sunny day. Yet, if I stop and think about it, I can see you in the beauty of the rain. “In the beginning,” you created the earth and all that dwells on it…and you have continued this masterful work since then. The songbird that sings from a nearby tree, the scent of a flower that grows in a flowerbed or a flower box, the babbling of a brook I may pass by, the laughter of children playing, all of creation shouts your praises…and so do I. I will worship you as my senses act as the gateway for receiving your blessings through nature…including your holy presence. I will care for and respect your creation so that all people, including those in generations yet to come, will be blessed by its’ beauty and your presence through it. Amen.

Women’s Retreat – “I Am Woman”

“I Am Woman,” is the theme for this year’s women’s retreat to be held on April 21-22, at Camp Eder’s comfortable and beautiful lodge. This year it will be a two-day event, but it will be packed with discussions about women who make a difference in our world, country, and city. We will share stories about women who have influenced us. We will be challenged to think about how we are influencing those around us and our community and world. We will celebrate being women. There will be free time to hike, relax, or do something else you enjoy. Of course each of us will help to provide plenty of food; and on Saturday night we will follow with tradition of enjoying a movie together. On Sunday we will have worship and continue our discussion on the theme. Pastor Twyla is leading this year’s retreat. The planning committee of Lisa Blevins, Sandy Zebal and Pastor Twyla have been hard at work planning for the retreat. The cost for the weekend is $50.00. Registration begins in March. Plan to come and celebrate being a woman.

“Take a Minute” and Pocket Prayer for the week of February 20

Awesome and Glorious God, I’m here…you have all of my attention. As I think about you in these moments I can do nothing  but praise you. Everything that makes me who I am stands in awe in your presence. No other words than, I love you, can capture what I want to express to you. I am aware of things I have said and done that are not pleasing to you. I know that some of those same actions have been hurtful to others. Admittedly, my sin emerges also in my thoughts. I am anything but proud of this. When I think of your judgment, I fear, that at times I may have gone too far; but then, your Word reminds me of your grace and forgiveness. Gracious God, humbly I come to you seeking your forgiveness. I pray for your guiding Spirit to help me to turn away from all temptation that might lead to sin…to separation from you and hurt to others. I also ask that your Loving Spirit help me to extend grace and forgiveness to others, just as you have done so for me. I give to you God all of who I am; and all of who I am yet to become for the purpose of helping to build your Kingdom. Amen.
